At Nirbhay Foundation, our mission is to create a safer and healthier environment for both animals and humans. As part of our long-term vision, we are planning to introduce a Street Dog Sterilization Program under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) initiative. This program will play a crucial role in controlling the stray dog population ethically while ensuring their well-being.
Why is the ABC Program Important?
Uncontrolled breeding among street dogs leads to overpopulation, resulting in many challenges, including:
• Increase in Stray Dog Population – More dogs struggle to survive on the streets, facing starvation, diseases, and accidents.
• Human-Animal Conflicts – Overpopulation leads to competition for resources, increasing incidents of aggression and dog bites.
• Poor Health Conditions – Unsterilized dogs are more vulnerable to infections, tumors, and sexually transmitted diseases.
• Lack of Shelter & Food – Overpopulation makes it harder for dogs to find food and shelter, leading to suffering and increased mortality.
Our Vision
Through the ABC program, we aim to:
• Sterilize & Vaccinate street dogs in a humane and scientific manner.
• Reduce Overpopulation by controlling the birth rate of stray dogs.
• Improve Health & Longevity by preventing reproductive diseases and infections.
• Reduce Aggressive Behavior in male dogs by lowering their territorial instincts.
• Ensure Community Safety by minimizing dog bites and conflicts.
How We Plan to Execute the Program
1. Identifying Stray Dog Hotspots – Conducting surveys to map areas with high stray populations.
2. Collaboration with Veterinary Experts – Partnering with skilled vets and clinics for safe sterilization procedures.
3. Humane Capture & Release – Rescuing dogs, performing sterilization, vaccinating them against rabies, and returning them to their familiar environment.
4. Public Awareness & Education – Conducting awareness campaigns to educate communities about the benefits of sterilization.
5. Working with Local Authorities – Seeking support from municipal bodies to ensure smooth implementation and long-term sustainability.
How You Can Support
• Spread Awareness – Help change perceptions about stray dogs and the benefits of sterilization.
• Volunteer – Assist in dog rescues, post-surgery care, and public education initiatives.
• Donate – Contributions will help us cover surgical costs, medicines, transport, and post-care for the dogs.
• Report Unsterilized Stray Dogs – Inform us about areas where sterilization efforts are needed.
• Adopt or Foster – Providing a loving home to a stray dog can make a huge difference in their life.
This initiative is a humane and effective solution to managing the stray dog population while ensuring their well-being. Together, we can build a healthy, safe, and compassionate society for both humans and animals.
